OSKALOOSA — Gabriana Franco (Fr., Tracy, Calif., Exercise Science) topped the leaderboard and for her efforts she was named Heart of America Athletic Conference Women’s Golfer of the Week Monday.
Franco collected her second laurel after guiding William Penn to the crown at the Heart Preview last Monday and Tuesday.
The freshman carded a two-round score of 152, including a first-round 74 and a second-round 78. Franco’s tally led the 68-player field, earning the linkster her second title of the fall. She headed the competition with 23 pars, while managing three birdies (fourth), and also ranked in the top five in scoring on par-three holes (second), par-four holes (second), and par-five holes (third).
For the year, Franco is averaging 76.1 strokes per round over nine rounds. She has seven rounds in the 60s and 70s with a low of 68 (school record). The freshman has placed in the top 10 in all five events in which she has been entered.
The award is the second of the year for WPU.
