KNOXVILLE — The International Economic Development Council (IEDC) has received funding from the US EDA department to help areas develop long term economic development sustainability plans. Marion County Development applied to IEDC to be an area to receive assistance and was selected. IEDC will send a team of four professionals in economic development to Marion County to develop the plan.
The process will include two public meetings, focus group sessions, leaders meetings, driving tours and small group meetings. The public is invited to attend an input session: Tuesday, November 8 from 7:30-9:00 AM at Central College, Graham #1 in Pella or Wednesday, November 9 from 1-2:30 PM at 3014 East Main Street in Knoxville.
“We are excited to bring such expertise to the area to help us plan for the future in these uncertain economic times,” expressed Carla Eysink, MCDC Director. “Planning is key to developing a future that will position Marion County for growth and prosperity. Our past efforts with the Roger Brooks Assessment, Marion County Housing Study and Marion County Childcare Study have led to great results. We expect this will help us connect efforts and build a common playbook for economic development strategies.”
Because of IEDC receiving grant funds from EDA, this planning will be provided at no cost to Marion County. The plan in Marion County will focus on three areas:
-Workforce attraction & upskilling
-Business mix and growth
-Placemaking & tourism
The Marion County Development Commission is a department of Marion County government.
