In a series of commemorative posts on social media, Elton John recalled dancing With Queen Elizabeth II to the tune of Billy Haley’s 1955 classic “Rock Around the Clock.”
John, who had the privilege of playing at three of the queen’s Jubilee celebrations, including a pre-recorded performance of “Your Song,” said, “They were always joyous and humbling experiences. But it was the moments out of the public eye that I will most fondly remember her for; dancing together to ‘Rock Around the Clock’ at Windsor Castle or experiencing her great wit, warmth and humour first hand. She served with grace and dedication, and she will be sorely missed.”
“Today I’ll be joining the rest of the world in remembering Her Majesty The Queen. My own memories of her are filled with joy and admiration. The Queen honoured me with a CBE, a knighthood and the Companion of Honour,” John wrote.
The 75-year-old musician shared a pair of images and a number of his favorite memories with the queen on Instagram to pay tribute to her majesty on the day of her funeral.
The photos were of him meeting the queen in 1970 and a more recent picture of them shaking hands.
