The Wapello County Sheriff’s Office announced that after an investigation lasting over a month, a 19 year-old Cedar Rapids man has been arrested on charges related to inappropriate text messages sent to a 12 year-old girl.

The Wapello County Sheriff’s Office reports that in July, the Ottumwa Police Department received a complaint from a family regarding their 12 year old daughter receiving inappropriate messages from someone over social media and via text messages on their cell phone that was possibly from an adult male. Police was granted permission to take over the social media account of the child and the child’s phone and continued communicating with the male.

Police were able to identify a suspect and also determined that the suspect resided in Cedar Rapids. During this investigation the suspect sent the victim illicit photographs of himself and also requested the victim send him nude images.

On Tuesday, the suspect was arrested in Cedar Rapids on his charges from Wapello County.

As a result of this investigation, Austin Jacob Kilberger, age 19, of Cedar Rapids, was arrested and charged with Sexual Exploitation of a Minor with Cause to Engage in Act, Enticing a Minor under age 13 with Sexual Exploitation, and Telephone Dissemination of Obscene Material to a Minor. Kilberger was transported to the Wapello County Jail where he is being held with a bond amount of $22,000.
