The top-ranked baseball team in Class 3A was in Oskaloosa Monday night (6/13).  Grinnell came to town and left with a 9-3 victory over the Indians.   Osky jumped off to a 3-0 start in the first inning, thanks to run-scoring hits from Colin Snitker and Aiden North.  Grinnell came back with four runs in the second inning, then three more in the fifth and two more in the seventh as the Tigers improved to 19-1 on the season. Cole Johnson homered and drove in four runs for Grinnell; Braden Blackford was the winning pitcher.  Colin Snitker went 4 for 4 for Oskaloosa; Logan Hoskinson took the loss.  Oskaloosa is now 5-9 on the season and 1-6 in the Little Hawkeye Conference.  The Indians host Washington Tuesday night (6/14).  You can hear that game on KBOE-FM with pregame coverage at 7:15 and the first pitch at 7:30.

Switching to softball, Grinnell needed extra innings to beat Oskaloosa on Monday.  The Tigers’ Ashlyn Imhoff hit a two-run homer with two out in the bottom of the seventh to tie the score 3-all.  Then Grinnell used two bases loaded walks to take the lead in the ninth inning and go on to a 6-3 win over the Indians.  That gives Grinnell their first Little Hawkeye Conference win after eight straight losses.  Lydia Van Veldhuizen hit a two-run homer for Oskaloosa and Maleah Walker had three hits for the Indians. Oskaloosa is now 5-4 in the conference and 7-8 overall.  The Indians are off until Wednesday (6/15), when they host Dallas Center-Grimes in a doubleheader.
