A near upset for the Oskaloosa High boys’ soccer team. Tenth-ranked Pella beat the Indians 4-3 in a penalty kick shootout Tuesday night (4/26) in Pella. Carson Genskow scored twice for the Indians, who are now 6-5 on the season and 1-3 in the Little Hawkeye Conference. The Indians boys will host Chariton Friday night (4/29)…and that will be Senior Night.
In girls’ high school soccer Tuesday, Abby Warner scored six goals as 11th-ranked Pella defeated Oskaloosa 9-0 at Drost Field. Osky’s girls are still looking for their first win of the season; their next game is at Indianola next Tuesday (5/3).
Over at Edmundson Golf Course, Oskaloosa’s boys’ golf team hosted its invitational Tuesday. Pella won the meet, led by medalist Will Simpson, who shot 69. Oskaloosa came in seventh place, led by Johnathan Terpstra, who tied for fourth with a 77 score.
Moving to track and field, Oskaloosa’s girls placed second at the Grinnell Invitational Tuesday. Maleah Walker was a double winner for the Indians, taking gold in the long jump and 100 meters. Faith DeRonde also won twice—in the shot put and discus. Osky’s Jordan Czerwinski won the 400 meter hurdles and the Indians’ 4 by 200 meter relay team of Macie Krier, Jordan Czerwinski, Faith DeRonde and Maleah Walker also finished in first place.
Meanwhile, Oskaloosa’s boys competed in Carlisle Tuesday. Patrick DeRonde won the 800 meters, while 22 Indians had personal bests in Tuesday’s meet.
In high school tennis, Newton beat the Oskaloosa boys 10-1 with Jarrett Czerwinski getting the Indians only win at number six singles. And Osky’s girls beat Newton 6-5 with singles victories from Presley Blommers, Haruna Mori and Autumn DeRonde….and doubles wins from the teams of Lucy Roach and Aubree Blanco, Haruna Mori and Autumn DeRonde, and Ava Ridenour and Jenna DeBoef.
