Thursday (4/21) was Youth Soccer Night in Oskaloosa, where kids who wore their uniforms got in for free. They also got a lesson in goal scoring as the Indians boys defeated Centerville 11-1 at Drost Field. Brennan Mason scored a hat trick for Osky, with Carson Genskow and Elliott Nelson each scoring twice. Dominick Van Leuven, Lawson Morris, Dalton Plate and Alex Perla also got on the scoresheet for the Indians. Osky’s boys’ soccer team is now 6-4 on the year.
In the girls’ game Thursday, Centerville defeated Oskaloosa 6-1. Audrey Cheney’s second half penalty got the Indians on the scoreboard. The Indians girls are still looking for their first win of the year. Both Osky soccer teams play Pella Tuesday (4/26); the girls at home and the boys at Pella.
Oskaloosa hosted its invitational girls golf meet Thursday at Edmundson Golf Course. Washington won the meet, with Pella third, Sigourney fourth, Albia sixth, Oskaloosa eighth, followed by Grinnell, Ottumwa, Knoxville and PCM. Washington’s Makenna Conrad was medalist with a round of 80. Sigourney’s Madelynn Hornback and Knoxville’s Faith Roozeboom tied for fourth with 89. Oskaloosa’s Amelia Meader shot 107 to tie for 19th place.
In boys’ golf, Oskaloosa was third at the West Marshall Invitational Thursday. Their team score of 335 was their best of the season so far. Carter Blanco of Osky shot 82 to tie for tenth place.
Switching to track and field, Oskaloosa’s boys and girls were at the Cardinal Relays in Newton Thursday. Team scores aren’t available, but on the girls’ side, Maleah Walker collected some medals. The junior was first in the 200, second in the long jump and 100 and third in the 400. On the boys’ side, Patrick DeRonde finished second in the 800.
In girls’ high school tennis, Pella defeated Oskaloosa 9-2 Thursday. Osky wins came from Presley Blommers at third singles and the number one doubles team of Lucy Roach and Presley Blommers.
