Make it eight straight wins for William Penn’s softball team. The Statesmen extended their winning streak Monday (4/18) by sweeping a doubleheader at Culver-Stockton. Penn won the first game 5-1 as Valeria Quiroga homered. Then the Statesmen won the nightcap 4-3, with Brianna Talamante’s sacrifice fly in the seventh bringing in the winning run. The Statesmen softball team improves to 14-8 in the conference and 21-15 overall. The Statesmen host Graceland in a doubleheader Wednesday (4/20) starting at 4.
William Penn athletes dominated this week’s Heart of America Athletic Conference player of the week honors. Showalter Johnson is the men’s track athlete of the week after winning the 100 meters at the William Penn Invitational in a time that also qualifies him for the NAIA nationals—10.63 seconds. For the second straight week, Sam Maceli is the women’s golfer of the week after coming in 11th in the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic in Oklahoma City. And the Statesmen’s Jordan Lester is men’s golfer of the week after winning both the William Penn Invitational last Monday (4/11) and the Battle of Waterloo over the weekend.
