Oskaloosa’s boys’ track team had several winners en route to a second place overall finish at Tuesday’s (4/12) Fairfield Trojan Invitational. Patrick DeRonde won the 800 meters, Tatum Westercamp the 110 hurdles and Wyatt Grubb the shot put. The Indians also won three relays….with Riley Humphrey, Tatum Westercamp, Waylon Bolibaugh and Patrick DeRonde taking the 4 by 400 relay, Reed Peterson, William Leonard, Aden Scott and Patrick DeRonde winning the 4 by 800, and JT Baker, Riley Humphrey, Waylon Bolibaugh and Tatum Westercamp taking first in the shuttle hurdle relay.
Meanwhile, the Indians’ girls track team placed third at a meet in Ames Tuesday. Maleah Walker won the long jump for Osky’s only gold medal of the meet. But in finishing second in the 200 meters, Walker tied the school record she set last year in that event: 26.01 seconds. And Walker’s time in the 100 meters of 12.6 seconds qualifies her for the Drake Relays later this month. The Indians’ Faith DeRonde placed second in both the shot put and discus…..and Jordan Czerwinski was second in the 400 hurdles.
Switching to soccer, Carson Genskow scored twice in the first half as Oskaloosa’s boys defeated Newton 2-1 Tuesday at Drost Field. The Indians are now 2-2 on the season and 1-1 in the Little Hawkeye Conference.
In girls’ high school soccer, Newton beat Oskaloosa 10-0 in Newton. Osky’s girls are now 0-5 on the season.
In high school tennis, Indianola beat Oskaloosa 10-1 Tuesday. Osky’s only win came from their first doubles team of Presley Blommers and Lucy Roach. While the Osky boys lost their season opener to Indianola 11-0.
Moving to the golf course, Newton beat Pella and Oskaloosa in a three team girls’ meet Tuesday at Edmundson Golf Course. Osky’s Emerson Lee was second overall with a 47. And in a boys golf meet in Grinnell, Pella was first, with Newton third, Pella Christian fourth, Oskaloosa fifth and Grinnell sixth. Johnathon Terpstra led Oskaloosa with an 84…good for tenth place.
