William Penn’s men’s and women’s track teams competed outside for the first time this season Saturday (3/26) at the Grand View Relays in Des Moines. The Statesmen’s Loubert Dagrin took an early step toward the NAIA nationals by winning the 110 hurdles in a national qualifying time of 14-point-64 seconds. Tom Nyandoro of William Penn won the gold in the triple jump with a jump of 42 feet, 7 inches. For the Statesmen women, Katherine Hunter took first in the 400 meter hurdles and Abigaille Batu-Tiako won the long jump with a leap of 16 feet, seven inches.
The Statesmen men’s golf team placed second at the Graceland Spring Invitational at Maryville, Missouri. Penn’s Jordan Lester was second overall with a two day total of 161, two strokes off the lead. Spencer Tucker and Austin Hafner of the Statesmen both finished in the top ten.
Monday (3/28), the Statesmen women’s golfers compete at the TPC Deere Run Invitational in Silvis, Illinois. The Statesmen baseball team hosts a doubleheader with Clarke starting at 3pm—that’s a makeup from a twin bill that was rained out on Friday. And the Statesmen men’s lacrosse team takes on Clarke in Dubuque today.
