Oskaloosa’s boys’ track team has its first meet of the season Thursday afternoon (3/24), when the Indians run at the Little Hawkeye Conference indoor meet at Grinnell College. Indians Boys Coach Mike Sterner says his team is ready to go.
“I think our distance crew is probably going to be our core. They are upperclassmen with Patrick DeRonde and William Leonard and Aden Scott. Those guys are going to be truly strong in the distance, so we’ll have those guys. They are all seniors. We’ve also got Colin Snitker coming back as a senior, so he’ll be a very strong sprinter for us. And then we’ve got a whole bunch of guys who are trying to learn the shot and the discus. So we’ve got a whole bunch of guys with lots of optimism, lots of potential. But right now, it’s just potential until we can see some actual marks and things like that. We’re excited to see where we are. We should be better than we were last year because all of those guys came back.”
The Indians girls will also be competing at the Little Hawkeye Conference indoor meet, along with Pella, Pella Christian, Grinnell and Newton. That’s at Grinnell College.
