Oskaloosa’s boys’ bowling team placed second at the State 2A Bowling tournament in Waterloo Tuesday (2/22). The Indians started the day by bowling 15 bakers games for qualifying and came in fourth place. Then Oskaloosa defeated MMCRU in a best of five match, three to nothing. Next, the Indians defeated top seed Clinton 3-0 before losing to Denison-Schleswig 3-0 in the championship match.
Ottumwa’s boys were also in the State 2A team competition, but lost 3-1 to Denison-Schleswig in the quarterfinals.
In Class 2A girls’ bowling Tuesday, Newton finished in second place…knocking off top seed Keokuk 3-0 and Western Dubuque 3-1 before losing to Lewis Central 3-0 in the championship game.
In Class 1A individual bowling Tuesday, Sigourney-Keota’s Brock Alderson took second in the state. Alderson bowled a three game total of 753 to earn the second seed. Then he won two matches in a knockout competition, but lost to Adam Denny of Council Bluffs St. Albert 270-181.
Wednesday (2/23) in 2A State Bowling in Waterloo, Oskaloosa’s Trey Van Wyk competes in the individual competition, along with Jayden Divelbiss of Pella, Reiley Freeman of Ottumwa and Newton’s Austin Kennedy and Logan Brown. And Newton will have three girls in the 2A individual field: Libbie Keith, Bailey Hansen and Kaitlyn Gifford.
