The playoff matchups for Iowa girls’ 4A and 5A basketball have been made public. In Class 4A Region 5, Oskaloosa will host Fairfield in the opening round on Wednesday, February 16. The Indians girls defeated Fairfield 59-55 in the season opener in December. Also in 4A Region 5, Newton plays at Norwalk in the first round. In girls’ 4A Region 4, Pella hosts Waterloos East on February 16; the winner goes to Grinnell on February 19. And in girls’ 4A Region 6, Knoxville hosts Carlisle on February 16. In Class 5A Region 8, Ottumwa plays at Valley on Saturday, February 19.
Playoff pairings for Classes 3A and 4A boys’ high school basketball have also been released. Oskaloosa will play at Fort Madison in Substate 5 on Monday, February 21. Until last week, Fort Madison was ranked number one in the state by Associated Press. The Bloodhounds are 15-3 on the year, Oskaloosa 5-14. Also in Class 3A Substate 4, Grinnell plays at Central DeWitt; in 3A Substate 6, Newton takes on Boone in Ballard; and in 3A Substate 7, defending state champions Pella will host Carlisle and Knoxville is at Winterset. In Class 4A Substate 7, Ottumwa plays at Southeast Polk. Again, all of these games will be on Monday, February 21.
