Sigourney-Keota has a state champion wrestler. Reanah Utterback took first at 110 pounds at this weekend’s Iowa Girls State Wrestling meet in Coralville. Utterback pinned all five of her opponents to win the championship. Meanwhile, Maddie Black of EBF placed second at 120 pounds. She pinned four opponents before being pinned in the title match. And Jasmine Luedtke of Ottumwa placed second at 115 pounds.
And while we’re on the subject of girls’ high school wrestling, the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union announced Saturday (1/22) that it will sanction girls’ wrestling as a sport beginning with the 2022-23 school year. According to Track Wrestling dot com, over 1000 girls in Iowa are participating in high school wrestling this season.
