Marking the Golden Jubilee of David Bowie’s classic 1971 album Hunky Dory, a 50th anniversary limited edition picture disc will be released on January 7.
The picture disc will feature the 2015 vinyl remaster and a poster of Bowie’s original version of the annotated back cover image.
Released on December 17, 1971, the original album features the singles “Life On Mars?,” “Oh! You Pretty Things” and “Changes.”
As a teaser, a streaming single “Changes (2021 Alternative Mix)” has been released. It was mixed from the original multi tracks by Hunky Dory co-producer Ken Scott.
Speaking about the new mix, Scott said, “The new version of ‘Changes’ is a fresh look at David’s classic. When listening to the original multi-track I discovered a few things that I had eliminated from the original mix and also a completely different sax solo at the end. It was those things that led me to try a new mix, trying for a slightly harder, more contemporary edge to it.”
Widely acknowledged as one of the best albums of all time, Hunky Dory peaked in the U.K. album chart’s Top 5 in August 1973.
