Oskaloosa is the Little Hawkeye Conference volleyball tournament champion. The Indians won all four of their matches in the tournament Thursday (10/14) in Grinnell. In group play, Osky defeated Newton 21-6, 21-4, then Dallas Center-Grimes 21-8 and 21-17. The Indians lost the first set to Norwalk 21-11, but rallied to take the next two 21-14 and 15-7. Then in the title match against Pella, the Indians won 25-22, 19-25 and 15-7. Oskaloosa Coach Jennifer Comfort was proud of her team’s performance.
“We have quality teams in the Little Hawkeye Conference. Just to come out on top in this tournament is just a big testament to how hard these girls have worked all season. This is the same championship match as last season (Pella vs. Oskaloosa) and they took it from us in three. I was just proud of our girls for taking care of business tonight.”
Oskaloosa is now 29-4 on the season. The Indians will open the Class 4A region playoffs next Thursday (10/21) at home against either Fairfield or Mt. Pleasant.
Also at the LHC tournament, Pella Christian defeated Norwalk 2-1 for fifth place and Grinnell defeated Newton 2-0 for seventh place.
