The Oskaloosa Indians football team ran into a buzz saw Friday night (9/24) at Clear Creek-Amana. In the first quarter alone, two Oskaloosa punts were blocked and returned for touchdowns, an Indian fumble was returned for a score and an interception led to a Clear Creek-Amana touchdown as the Clippers went on to a 48-9 victory. Oskaloosa’s points came on a 25 yard Dawson Braden field goal and a one yard touchdown run by Keaton Flaherty. The Indians are now 4-1 overall and 0-1 in district play. Osky’s next game is Homecoming night this Friday (10/1) against Newton. You can hear that game on KBOE-FM.
In Class 1A football, Sigourney-Keota defeated Pella Christian in a battle of top ten teams 20-13 in Pella. Cade Molyneux rushed for 194 yards and three touchdowns for the Cobras. The fourth-ranked Cobras are now 5-0 on the year; sixth-ranked Pella Christian drops to 4-1. Sigourney-Keota’s next game is Friday night at home against another undefeated team, Cardinal of Eldon. Switching to college football, William Penn’s Ben Sherman rushed for 130 yards and three touchdowns Saturday (9/25), but the Statesmen lost their Homecoming game to Missouri Valley 30-27. The Statesmen are now 1-4 on the year. They’ll play at Central Methodist on Saturday (10/2).
