A lawsuit has been filed against Bob Dylan accusing the legendary musician of sexually abusing a 12-year-old girl in 1965.
The now-68-year-old woman, identified as J.C. in the lawsuit filed in New York City, alleges that the singer sexually abused her multiple times between April and May of 1965 when she was 12.
Dylan “exploited his status as a musician by grooming J.C. to gain her trust and to obtain control over her as part of his plan to sexually molest and abuse J.C.,” the lawsuit claims.
The lawsuit further states that Dylan befriended J.C. “to lower her inhibitions with the object of sexually abusing her, which he did, coupled with the provision of drugs, alcohol and, threats of physical violence, leaving her emotionally scarred and psychologically damaged to this day.”
A spokesperson for Dylan said that “the 56-year-old claim is untrue and will be vigorously defended.”
J.C., who now resides in Greenwich, Connecticut, said in the lawsuit that she has suffered and continues to suffer “serious and severe mental distress, anguish, humiliation and embarrassment, as well as economic losses” She is seeking compensatory and punitive damages from Dylan.
The lawsuit was filed on Friday, August 13, just one day before the New York Child Victims Act expired.
