William Penn’s football team suffered a big blow early last season when leading rusher Ben Sherman was only able to play three games because of injury. The No Coast Network asked Statesmen Coach Todd Hafner if Sherman would take advantage of the extra year of eligibility allowed because of coronavirus issues.
“Ben did decide to come back. So he had surgery right at the end of the season and got cleared right at the end of spring football. Didn’t do much during spring football, if anything. He had a good summer. He has decided to come back. He’s a graduate student. We’re excited that he decided to come back. He’s a good football player and he’s looked good early here. He had a good summer getting in shape and we’re glad he’s here.”
To show how good Sherman is, he led the Statesmen in rushing last season with 526 yards—even though he only played three games. The Statesmen kick off their 2021 season Saturday night, August 28 against 17th ranked Benedictine at Statesmen Community Stadium.
