Oskaloosa High’s softball season ended Wednesday (7/21) with a 4-0 loss to Carlisle in the Class 4A consolation round in Fort Dodge. The game had settled into a pitchers’ duel with Carlisle taking a one-nothing lead in the third inning. Oskaloosa threatened in the fifth by loading the bases, but weren’t able to score. Carlisle then added three insurance runs in the sixth inning to clinch their 4-0 win. Oskaloosa Coach Jay Harms said Tuesday’s (7/20) quarterfinal loss to Winterset was still affecting his team.
“That loss to Winterset was really a heartbreaker, gut-wrencher.”
The Indians were held to four hits on the day. Junior Faith DeRonde was the losing pitcher. After the game, Harms reminded his team of something.
“You don’t want it (the season) to end (laughs), but this is where you want it to end. You want to be in Fort Dodge. So that’s what we talked about.”
The Indians finish the season with a 22-16 record. Wednesday’s game was also the final game for seniors Abby Braundmeier, Kaylee Johnson and Makenna Schaffner in an Indians uniform.
