Winterset scored four runs in the sixth inning Tuesday (7/20) to defeat Oskaloosa in the Class 4A State Softball Tournament in Fort Dodge.
Oskaloosa had taken a 4-3 advantage in the fifth inning on rbi hits from Abby Braundmeier and Presley Blommers.
Then with two out in the Winterset sixth with runners on second and third, the Huskies’ Thea Banning tripled to left center off the glove of Indians’ center fielder Maleah Walker. Both runners scored to put Winterset up 5-4. Then after an intentional walk, Winterset’s Riley Kious singled to drive in one run and a Walker error allowed another to score, putting the defending 4A champions ahead 7-4.
Indians shortstop Presley Blommers went two for two with three runs batted in, while catcher Olivia Gordon was three for four at the plate.
Banning was the winning pitcher, improving to 33-3 on the season. Faith DeRonde took the loss for the Indians.
Oskaloosa will finish its season Wednesday with a consolation game against Carlisle. Live coverage on KBOE-FM will start at 11:15 with the first pitch at 11:30.
