Oskaloosa won its opening game in the Class 4A Region 6 softball playoffs Thursday (7/8), defeating Washington 8-3 at Jay Harms Field. The Indians got started early with three runs in the first inning and two in the second to take an early 5-1 lead. Catcher Olivia Gordon went three for four with four runs batted in, while pitcher Faith DeRonde went four for four with three runs scored. DeRonde was also the winning pitcher, giving up eight hits and three walks while striking out five. Now the Indians travel to Norwalk Saturday night (7/10) in the region semifinals. Olivia Gordon talks about the matchup.
“I think all the girls are really excited because it’s hard to win more than three times against a team….and we beat them once this year and we beat them at their place a couple of years ago. So I think we’re all really excited.”
Norwalk, who is ranked sixth in the state in Class 4A, won two of the three regular season games against Oskaloosa. Game time Saturday is 7:00; KBOE-FM will have live coverage starting at 6:45.
