Sigourney’s golfers had a tough time Tuesday (6/1) at the Class 1A State Girls High School golf meet in Ames. The Savages are tenth in the team competition going into Wednesday’s (6/2) final round. Lily Schmidt had Sigourney’s best round of the day with a 96, Maddie Hornback shot 100, Sidney Morse 110, Claire Svenby and Maizy Cowman both shot 114, with Reggie Talbert 118.
Individually, Greenlee Smock of Lynnville-Sully is tied for first in the 1A tournament with a six over par 77, sharing the lead with Madeline Streicher of Edgewood-Colesburg.
In the Class 4A State tournament in Ankeny, Rylee Heryford of Newton is in fifth place after an opening round 73, six strokes off the lead.
And Knoxville’s Amy Sullivan shot an opening round 94 to be tied for 22nd place in the Class 3A State Golf meet in Adel.
