Guitar legend Billy Gibbons has revealed that ZZ Top have started working on a new album.
In an interview with Classic Rock, Gibbons confirmed that the band’s work on its first album in almost a decade is “underway.” The upcoming album will be a follow-up to 2012’s La Futura.
“The last laugh has yet to be heard,” Gibbons said. “While we were working on Hardware, I was sending the roughs that might not have been fitting for that but were certainly fitting for the ZZ thing. I get to tiptoe out of Hardware and back into ZZ, which is underway now.”
Hardware, Gibbons’ third solo album, drops on June 4. The album features former Guns N’ Roses and Velvet Revolver drummer Matt Sorum and guitarist Austin Hanks.
Gibbons didn’t reveal a release date for the ZZ Top album but said, “If it were this year, it would be the very late end.”
