Legendary drummer Ringo Starr has revealed that his favorite Beatles song is “Come Together.”
During a virtual visit to Stephen Colbert’s “The Late Show,” the host asked Starr, “You get one song to listen to for the rest of your life. What is it?” Starr quickly replied, “Come Together.”
“There’s lots of other favorites, but if you want one, ‘Come Together’ can’t be bad,” Starr said. “I just think it worked perfectly with the band and the song and John being John. I loved that moment.”
“Come Together” was written by John Lennon and credited to Lennon-McCartney. The song is the opening track on the band’s 1969 album Abbey Road. The song reached the top of the charts in the U.S. and peaked at No. 4 in the U.K.
When asked about the afterlife during the interview, Starr shared his unique view on the subject.
“I think we go to heaven,” Starr said. “Heaven’s great, but you don’t stay there too long; you just gotta get yourself together again and come deal with all that stuff you didn’t deal with last time you were here.”
