Oskaloosa’s boys and girls track teams will have their only regular season home meet Saturday (4/10) when they host the Oskaloosa Relays at Statesmen Community Stadium. Indians boys’ coach Mike Sterner talks about his squad.
“We’re really young. We’re really inexperienced, but we’re gaining experience every day. Our middle distance guys are probably our core. And then we’ve got a few guys who are jumpers and a few throwers, they’re all growing. Really, that’s what our focus is.”
Osky girls’ coach Betsy Luck says her team is led by senior Sophia Dykstra and junior Faith DeRonde.
“Sophia and Faith are just rocking it out in the field events. They’re both sitting 1-2 in the state in the discus right now and they’re both in the top ten in the shot put, as well. Just a lot of really good things going on for our team.”
Albia, EBF, Grinnell, Newton, North Mahaska, Ottumwa, Pella, Sigourney, South Tama and Williamsburg will also compete at the Oskaloosa Relays. Field events will start at 9:30 Saturday morning with running events at 10:15.
