Ian Anderson has announced a new Jethro Tull album, The Zealot Gene, the first record under the band’s name since the release of the Christmas LP in 2003.
Anderson revealed the news to Rolling Stone while discussing “Silent Singing,” a book he is currently working on. The book compiles all his lyrics to date, starting from Jethro Tull’s 1968 debut, This Was. The book is due out in June.
Anderson previewed the title track from The Zealot Gene, referencing the line, “‘Bee buzzing in your bonnet / and a wasp right up the bum / a V8 under hood / a cocked hammer under thumb.'”
Although the band has not released an album since 2003, Anderson has released several projects since then, including Thick as a Brick 2 (2012), Homo Erraticus (2014) and Jethro Tull – The String Quarters (2017).
