William Penn’s men’s basketball team faces Carroll of Montana Friday night (3/19) in the Sweet 16 round of the NAIA National tournament in Kansas City. Statesmen Coach John Henry says the NAIA tournament has plenty of history behind it.
“This is the oldest basketball tournament in the world. Actually Dr. James Naismith, the man who invented basketball, helped create this tournament. And it’s the toughest tournament to win because it’s five games in six days.”
The Statesmen bring a 25-1 record to Kansas City and are seeded second in the tournament. Henry says his team is ready to play.
“We’re going to give it a go. And the expectation is very, very high. I hope people understand if we win it, it’s fantastic. If we don’t, it’s been a great year. We’re going to give it a go though, we’re going to give it our all and we expect to do well.”
