John Mellencamp has announced that a new live album and documentary will be released this spring.
Mellencamp also revealed that he will soon return to the studio to finish recording his 25th album.
The Grammy-winner had already cut ten tracks before the onset of the COVID Pandemic, and plans to record another 17 for the project.
He shared a teaser video clip for one new song, “I Always Lie To Strangers.”
The documentary, titled The Good Samaritan Tour, will be narrated by Academy Award winner Matthew McConaughey. It chronicles Mellencamp’s historic free tour in 2000, when he performed on street corners and in public parks across the country.
Mellencamp said his band is looking to tour in 2022, adding that it “all depends on the pandemic and our ability to recover from it.”
In addition to music and film, Mellencamp plans to resume production for an untitled original play directed by Kathleen Marshall, produced by Scott Landis, and written by Naomi Wallace.
