Montezuma’s girls’ basketball team began its road back to the state tournament Tuesday night with a 57-36 victory over Iowa Valley in the quarterfinals of the Class 1A Region 6 tournament. Elise Boulton scored 24 points for the Bravettes, while Dylan Holland grabbed 18 rebounds. Montezuma improves to 20-1 on the season. They’ll host North Mahaska Friday night in the district semifinals. North Mahaska eliminated Lynnville-Sully 55-41.
Also in girls basketball last night: Class 1A, Sigourney defeated Wayne 57-34. The Savages will meet Lenox Friday night at Clarke in Osceola. And in 2A girls, Pella Christian eliminated Pekin 49-40. Pella Christian plays at West Branch on Friday night.
Oskaloosa’s boys’ basketball team finished its regular season Tuesday night with a 76-46 loss to Burlington in Oskaloosa. Burlington shot a sizzling 68.2 percent from the field in getting the victory. Oskaloosa is now 2-18 on the season. The Indians open the Class 3A substate playoffs Monday night at Washington.
