Oskaloosa’s boys just missed their first Little Hawkeye Conference win of the season Monday (2/1), as they lost at Newton 35-30. The Indians were up 28-27 with 2:17 to play. But within the next minute, Newton’s Parker Aalbers made three of four free throws to put the Cardinals in front 30-28 and the Indians weren’t able to catch up. Keaton Flaherty had 18 points for Oskaloosa, as the Indians are now 1-13 overall and 0-10 in the Conference. Brody Bauer had 18 to lead Newton.
In girls’ basketball Monday, Newton defeated Oskaloosa 61-43 in Newton. Chassidy Henwood had 19 points for the Cardinals, who got their first Little Hawkeye Conference win of the year. Presley Blommers had 19 for Oskaloosa. The Indians girls are now 6-11 on the year and 1-9 in the Conference.
