Hipgnosis Songs Fund has purchased 100% of the publishing rights to Lindsey Buckingham’s music catalog.
Hipgnosis previously held a 25% share of the former Fleetwood Mac musician’s catalog. It has now acquired 100% of Buckingham’s music publishing rights, including his publishing and writer’s share for his entire catalog comprising 161 songs.
The songs include those that Buckingham wrote and/or co-wrote for Fleetwood Mac, including “Go Your Own Way” and “The Chain.”
The investment company, which was founded by Merck Mercuriadis, made the announcement on Tuesday, January 5, a day after confirming it had bought Jimmy Iovine’s worldwide producer royalties.
As part of its new agreement with Buckingham, Hipgnosis also acquires a 50% share of any unreleased compositions.
Hipgnosis previously bought a 25% stake in Buckingham’s song catalog via its buyout of a publishing portfolio from Kobalt for $323 million.
“Prior to arriving at an agreement with Hipgnosis, I had wonderful long conversations with Merck Mercuriadis,” Buckingham said. “I was pleased to find a kindred spirit, someone who’s a big fan of my work in Fleetwood Mac, and an even bigger fan of my solo efforts.”
He added, “I look forward to working with Merck and the whole Hipgnosis team going into the future, and am confident that my body of work will be curated with great heart and insight.”
