Paul McCartney’s new album McCartney III debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Album Sales Chart.
McCartney III sold 104,000 copies in the U.S. in the week ending December 24, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data.
This is the biggest sales week for a rock album by a solo artist in more than two years.
McCartney holds the record in this category, as his Egypt Station debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Album Sales Chart dated September 22, 2018, selling 147,000 copies.
McCartney III sold 53,000 copies on CD; nearly 32,000 on vinyl LP, 18,000 as a digital download and 1,000 on cassette.
The album ranks as the top-selling vinyl album on the weekly Vinyl Albums chart. This also marks the third-largest sales week for a vinyl album.
McCartney III was ranked second on the Billboard 200 chart with 107,000 equivalent album units in the United States in the week ending December 24.
