Sammy Hagar says he feels relieved that he was able to talk with Eddie Van Halen before his death.
In an interview to Variety, Hagar revealed that he called Van Halen when he came to know about the legendary rock guitarist’s malignancy.
“Poor Eddie, broke my heart, but thank God we connected before [he died],” Hagar said, referring to their long feud.
“I heard he was in bad shape and I wanted to reach out; I finally said, ‘I’m just calling him,'” the former Van Halen lead singer added.
Hagar said he tried to contact Eddie by calling his brother, his manager and his friends, but it didn’t work out.
Finally, they were connected due to an initiative taken by comedian George Lopez.
“I said, ‘Why don’t you respond? I’ve been reaching out,'” Hagar recalled, “and Ed said, ‘Why didn’t you call me? Don’t call my brother, call me!’ And I said, ‘I love you man,’ and it was like, boom, we were good. It was a beautiful thing.”
The Van Halen founder died at age 65 earlier this year after battling cancer for years.
