William Penn’s women defeated Mount Mercy 81-54 Thursday night (12/17) at Penn Gymnasium. Senior Brittany West scored the Statesmen’s first 14 points and finished with a team high 24, including six three-point baskets. Statesmen Coach Steve Williamson:
“At the start of the game, we had a few too many turnovers to start with. We played smart after that and Brittany West coming in and hitting a lot of good shots. I can’t say enough about Bree Wendland, what she did on the court for us as a point guard and the things she did to run our team for us. She’s our fourth option at a point guard. She’s more of a shooting guard and she had to play the point because of all our injuries.”
Wendland had 18 points, along with four assists and four rebounds. The Statesmen women have won seven of their last eight and are now 7-4 overall on the season. Now the Statesmen will start their Christmas break and their next game will be January 6 at Baker.
