Eddie Van Halen passed away after suffering a stroke, the L.A. Department of Public Health confirmed.
The legendary guitarist and co-founder of Van Halen passed away on October 6 after a long battle with cancer.
Van Halen, aged 65, died at St. John’s Hospital in Santa Monica. The guitarist previously recovered from lung cancer in 2002. This time, the throat cancer spread to his brain.
Van Halen’s death certificate, obtained by TMZ, cites his immediate cause of death as a cerebrovascular accident, or a stroke. He also had several underlying causes, including pneumonia, the bone marrow disorder myelodysplastic syndrome, lung cancer and skin cancer.
TMZ also reported that Van Halen’s body was cremated, with his final wishes calling for the ashes to be strewn off the coast of Malibu.
