Wolfgang Van Halen has criticized an event in which his late father’s guitars were auctioned off, saying that the organizers were taking advantage of his father’s death.

Three of Eddie Van Halen’s guitars were sold for $422,050 at the Icons & Idols Trilogy: Rock ‘N’ Roll event organized by Julien’s Auctions earlier this week.

Responding to the news on Twitter, Wolfgang wrote, “The headline should read: ‘Three guitars that are striped were sold at an auction for charity.'”

“They weren’t stage guitars. I had nothing to do with this. I don’t EVER plan on selling any of my father’s iconic guitars,” he added.

The only place they’d possibly belong in is a museum, according to the late Van Halen guitarist’s son.

Later in the thread Wolfgang tweeted, “It WASN’T for charity. They’re just taking advantage of my father’s passing. What a surprise.”
