Wolfgang Van Halen paid an emotional tribute to his late father Eddie Van Halen in his first-ever solo song, “Distance.”
The hard-rock ballad, written by the guitarist while his father was fighting cancer, is described as an open letter to the co-founder of the rock band Van Halen.
“As my pop continued to struggle with various health issues, I was imagining what my life would be like without him and how terribly I’d miss him. While the song is incredibly personal, I think anyone can relate to the idea of having a profound loss in their life,” Wolfgang said in a statement.
“No matter what the distance is, I will be with you,” he sings in the track.
The video for the song, released under the band name Mammoth WVH, shows some home-camera footage of the father and son.
The Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation will partly benefit from the proceeds of “Distance.”
