Oskaloosa’s girls swim team opens its season Thursday (8/27) with a meet at Ottumwa. Indians Coach Makenzie Kauffman talks about her team.
“We’ve got returning Sophia Dykstra, who is our breaststroker, really strong in that, also a good IM’er (individual medley). Two of our newcomers are going to be really good for us, I think. Sophomore Callie Lindgren has taken a couple of seasons off of the Y swim and joined us. She’s already up there finishing top in some of the workout sets, so she’ll be a great sprinter for us. As well as Grace Moore, who is a freshman, who will also be an IM’er or can do any of the strokes for us.”
Ottumwa’s conference, the Central Iowa Metropolitan League, has pretty much banned spectators from Thursday’s girls swim meet. No fans from visiting teams will be allowed and each Ottumwa swimmer and coach will be allowed two tickets apiece. Oskaloosa’s only home swim meet of the year will be Thursday, September 10.
