Oskaloosa High’s volleyball team got its season off to a good start Monday (8/24) by defeating Knoxville and Carlisle in a triangular in Oskaloosa. The Indians defeated Knoxville 25-17 and 25-20, then tamed Carlisle 25-18 and 25-13. Indians Coach Jennifer Comfort says several newcomers to the varsity stepped up Monday night.
“I thought Maleah Walker played really well. She plays both outside and the middle position, but also all the way around Her serves really got us on some runs in that first set, the first match, so I was impressed with that. Addison (Gerard) playing defense, I thought she did well on serve receive, but also talking to our hitters and working defensively. Riley Ebelsheiser on the outside had some timely kills for us, against Knoxville especially. Aubree Blanco is working hard as a blocker. Macie Krier digging some balls at right back and just making sure that she was active in all those plays. And Aby Thompson I thought did some really good things in the middle. We’ve got a list of what we want to work on to get ready, because we’re going to see Carlisle again on Thursday (8/27). but I thought it was a good start and a good carryover from our scrimmage on Saturday (8/22).”
In the other match in the Oskaloosa triangular, Knoxville defeated Carlisle two sets to none. Oskaloosa will be at a tournament in Carlisle Thursday night (8/27).
