Major League Baseball’s “Field of Dreams” game in Dyersville is officially on hold.
According to a source to the Des Moines Register, the Aug. 13 game between the Chicago White Sox and the St. Louis Cardinals at the Field of Dreams movie site is off.
The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal first reported the cancellation.
The source said MLB decided to err on the side of caution during the COVID-19 pandemic and refrain from asking clubs to take additional steps outside of the normal routines at this time, including coming to Iowa for the game.
But MLB is still planning on making a trip to Dyersville, Iowa, with a game in the cards for sometime in 2021. Given the franchise’s ties to the 1989 theatrical film starring Kevin Costner, the White Sox are still expected to be part of the game. But the opponent for next season remains up in the air.
