Multiple Grammy-winning director Jonas Akerlund has been revealed to be the director of the forthcoming biopic about the eventful life of Beatles manager Briant Epstein.
Epstein was described as the “fifth Beatle” by Paul McCartney himself and signed a contract with the band in 1961. In his short, 5-year-spanning career within the music industry, he also worked with several other musical acts, including Gerry and the Pacemakers, Cilla Black, Jimi Hendrix, The Who, Cream, and Pink Floyd.
Titled Midas Man, the film is being be produced by Trevor Beattie & Jeremey Chatterton of Trevor Beattie Films, and Kevin Proctor & Perry Trevers at StudioPOW, and has been described as “an emotional, witty, heartfelt story of the joy of success and the terrifying pressures of unspeakable risk and unfulfilled desire.”
In addition to directing award-winning feature films, Akerlund has worked alongside a long list of musical artists, including Lady Gaga, U2, Maroon 5, Pink, Jennifer Lopez, Metallica, Ozzy Osbourne, Duran Duran, and Robbie Williams.
“Brian Epstein’s story has everything I’m looking for in a story…. it’s all about Brian’s singularity for me. I love that Brian seemed to know every step of the way what no one else knew, he saw things that no one else saw,” shared Aukerland.
“His vision was astonishing, he created a culture that didn’t exist,” he added. “The film is more like touring Brian’s mind and what it was like to be him than how one thing led to another chronologically. I want to bring him back to life.”
