Oskaloosa’s baseball and softball teams brought out the brooms Friday (6/26). Both Indians teams swept doubleheaders with Pella. Starting with softball, Osky beat the Dutch in the first game 5-3 despite being outhit 7-4. Senior Taylor Wills was one for one with two walks and three stolen bases for Oskaloosa, with Hayle Hacker the winning pitcher. In game two, Faith DeRonde pitched a two hit shutout, striking out six. Maddie Haines and Sophia Dykstra each had two hits and an rbi for the Indians. Oskaloosa is now 7-3 on the season. The Indians will host Indianola, ranked seventh in the state in Class 5A, Monday night (6/29) at the High School. Switching to baseball, Oskaloosa beat Pella twice on Friday. The Indians blanked Pella 3-0 in the first game, with Tyler Miller and Wyatt Krier combining on a two hit shutout. Noah Van Veldhuizen had two hits and two runs batted in for Oskaloosa. In the nightcap, the Indians scored a 5-1 win with Van Veldhuizen hitting a home run and pitching five and a third innings to get the win. The senior right-hander struck out seven. The Indians baseball team is now in second place in the Little Hawkeye Conference at 6-3 and 7-3 overall. Tonight the Indians host Indianola at 7:30 at the High School.
