The Heart of America Conference has approved a nine game football schedule for the upcoming season. The move comes after the NAIA moved to alter the length of fall sports seasons. While William Penn and other Heart of America schools will play two fewer games than in the past, Statesmen football coach Todd Hafner is pleased there’s going to be a football season.
“We’re playing football. That’s really all that matters. At one point in time, we were hoping to play five. So the fact that we’re playing nine games is exciting for us. We were able to relay that to all of our kids through Zoom and all of our newcomers now understand how important even playing games at this level is. So we’re excited.”
The Statesmen kick off their 2020 football season September 12 at MidAmerica Nazarene. Their home opener will be September 19 against Baker.
