Tri-County High School’s baseball team has changed its scheduled season opener. Instead of playing Colfax-Mingo Monday night (6/15) in Thornburg, the game will be played Monday afternoon at Principal Park in Des Moines. Tri-County baseball coach and athletic director Scott Edmundson explains how this came about.
“Colfax was scheduled to play Ankeny up there on June 25. And for some reason that game wasn’t able to happen. They said that this date (6/15) was opening up and we both were able to move the game to Principal Park for opening day.”
Edmundson says the Trojans are psyched up about playing at Principal Park.
“They’re pretty excited. They were really excited to get that opportunity. We know a lot of kids have been up there to games before and watched. So to be able to go out on a big league park and play on a nice stadium like that. It’s a great opportunity for them.”
Monday’s Tri-County/Colfax-Mingo game starts at 1pm at Principal Park in Des Moines.
Other high school baseball teams from the No Coast Network listening area will also have a chance to play at Principal Park this month. On June 24 at 4pm, Pella Christian will play Grinnell, and then at 7 that night, Knoxville takes on Ames. Tickets for each game will be $8 and they’ll be on sale an hour before game time at Principal Park.
