KISS guitarist and co-lead vocalist Paul Stanley’s side project Soul Station has released a quarantine-style cover of the R&B classic “Ooo Baby Baby” released by Smokey Robinson in 1965.
“These are challenging times. Long before I ever heard the great British bands, I grew up listening to Philly Soul, Motown and so much more,” Stanley explained alongside the video. “I was lucky to see Otis Redding and Solomon Burke among others.”
“That music and its storytelling gave me strength and hope even in some tough days,” he added. “The great classics of that era are magical medicine for most and I felt myself drawn back to that era for some sorcery I think we could all use.”
At the beginning of the video, the singer delivers a message of hope to listeners, saying “No matter whether you’re with other people or you’re home alone, you’re not really alone, ’cause all of us are in this together. And music can bring us that much closer together. And when we sing, we’re definitely a group. So don’t be shy.” He then encourages the listeners to sing along.
Named Soul Station, the Soul cover group came together a few years back and made their live debut at Los Angeles’ Roxy Theatre in 2015.
In October of 2019, they reported that they were putting the final touches on their debut album, though further details such as the album title and release date have yet to be revealed.
