Last year, the Oskaloosa High softball team made it to the Class 4A State Tournament, but lost two one run games when they got there and went home early. This year, the Indians’ theme is “Unfinished Business” and Coach Jay Harms says his team has got down to business so far in preseason practice.
“We’ve had three good practices so far. We feel good about how things are going. Everybody’s out that we were hoping that would be out. We’re happy with the kids that are there and the experience that we do have coming back. We said all the starters back, but we have some young kids that are really practicing well and just waiting in the wings to get a chance.”
Only one senior, third baseman Ashley Kindley, graduated from last year’s Oskaloosa squad. That explains why the Indians are ranked fourth in the preseason Class 4A poll from the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. Among the Indians’ returnees are 20-game winner Hayle Hacker, three-year starters in catcher Meghan Moorman and second baseman Taylor Wills and five-year starter first baseman Ava Van De Wall. Remember, you can hear Oskaloosa Indians softball all season long on KBOE-FM. The first broadcast will be the Indians’ season opener June 15 at home against Pella Christian.
