A Lynyrd Skynyrd biopic, titled Street Survivors: The True Story Of The Lynyrd Skynyrd Plane Crash, will release on DVD, Blu-ray and video on demand on on June 30.
Street Survivors: The True Story Of The Lynyrd Skynyrd Plane Crash was screened at several international festivals and was scheduled for additional screenings in the U.S., but they were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Street Survivors tells the story of the plane crash that killed singer, founder and frontman Ronnie Van Zant and five others through the perspective of drummer Artimus Pyle, who survived the crash and worked as a consultant on the project.
“This film’s story – my story – is not just about the plane crash but also about my personal relationship with the genius that was Ronnie Van Zant – whom I loved like a brother and still miss to this day,” Pyle said in a press release.
The movie was made without the backing of Pyle’s surviving former bandmates or the current members of the band. Lawsuits filed to stop the production and release of the film were overturned. However, the band did not allow its music to be used in the movie.
