In a recent interview with Uncle Joe Benson on the “Ultimate Classic Rock Nights” radio show, Graham Nash shared the origin story of the folk-rock supergroup Crosby, Stills & Nash.

Nash shared that he became acquainted with David Crosby while touring the U.S alongside The Hollies in 1966. It wasn’t until two years later that the pair eventually reconnected while Crosby was over in London and Nash offered to put him up at his apartment.

“I said to David, ‘Where are you staying?’ He said, ‘It’s funny – I’m staying at this hotel in London called the White House. But it’s full of blue-haired ladies and old people.’ I said, ‘Hey, you know what? Check out, come and stay with me in my apartment.’ So David and I formed a very deep friendship,” Nash explained.

Later that year, when Nash was back in the U.S, Crosby invited him to visit Peter Tork from The Monkees at his home in L.A, where he was introduced to Stephen Stills.

“We drive up to Mulholland, Peter Tork’s house, open the door, and here’s this kid pounding the hell out of the piano, playing boogie-woogie fast rock ‘n’ roll,” Nash shared. “It was great. It was Stephen Stills. That’s how I met Stephen.”
