Former Pella High volleyball player Emily Holterhaus attended an open tryout for the US National Team last month. Holterhaus, who is a freshman at Northern Iowa, attended the tryout with two UNI teammates. She talks about the experience.
“It was overall really good. But a couple of sessions, I don’t think I performed my best. The last session we got to scrimmage and overall, I felt I did really good and over the weekend I thought I got a lot better. It was a really cool experience getting to play alongside all of the other big athletes and big names that are in college volleyball. And getting to play with them was really cool, too. Because I got to learn how they play and just see the way they go about being aggressive, swinging hard, going after every ball.”
Holterhaus was named to the Missouri Valley Conference’s All-Freshman team last season after getting 188 kills for the UNI Panthers.
